Superman Returns Trailer

It seems to be a day for trailers today. I don't really have a great intrest in Superman, man who still wears his underpants on the outside, a gay icon and a film franchise that got as progressivly as bad as Batman. I don't even watch Smallville. I'm hoping however what Batman Begins did for the Dark Knight on celluloid will be mirrored for The Man Of Steel in this Superman Returns as I have friends who like Superman and I'd like them to be happy. It's not all me me me you know.

View the grather-good-really NEW TRAILER now!

Casino Royale Trailer

*UPDATED*

It's even better when in a real language. Previously only available in French, the new teaser trailer is now in English and avilable here.

It still looks incredible and sounds even better now, and Danny looks the part. At least I'll have something to look forward to after M:I-3.

Time to be SiNful

It's here in a week; built using Valve's Source engine, the follow-up to the SiN series: Sin Episodes: Emergence takes on an episodic structure, expanding on the role of Colonel John R. Blade, a battle worn hero in charge of HardCorps. Joining Blade on his mission are JC, a HardCorps hacker with a secret to keep, and Jessica Cannon, a fiery rookie who can find her way into any secure facility. This first chapter features never-before-seen weapons, characters and environments along with a host of interactive options, paying homage to its predecessors, SiN and its expansion pack, Wages of SiN.

Writing on his developer blog on the game's official website, Shawn "CodeNinja" Ketcherside -- the lead game designer praised the SiN Episodes team for all their hardwork and dedication in creating what he calls "one of the most fun shooters" that he has ever played, Ketcherside says that he finds himself "straddling two worlds" -- one world that provides great pride in what was created with Episode One but also another world that "humbles" him when he sees what is planned for Episode Two.

SiN Episodes: Emergence is already preloading on Steam, Valve's online content delivery service, and will be available at retail outlets and for play via Steam, on May 10th. I'll tell you all about it once I get a chance to play it.

A redhead with fuckin' great big...

... swords. I'll never ask for more than that from life and it appears that someone has listened to some extent.

Forgetting the rather lame 1985 Red Sonja pic, starring Brigitte Nielson and Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was released by MGM to dismal box-office numbers; last year, Dynamite Entertainment launched a new Red Sonja series that has gone on to be one of the best-selling indie comic books on the market.

Noting it's success: Avi Lerner and Danny Dimbort's Millennium Fims and Emmett/Furla Films have picked up the film rights for a new Red Sonja film to bring her back to the big screen.

Millennium will finance and produce the movie with Emmett/Furla. The project's budget is north of $25 million. Red Sonja, created by sword-and-sorcery legend Robert E. "Conan the Barbarian" Howard, was introduced into Marvel's Conan the Barbarian comics in 1973 and soon was given her own title.

Chinaman buys fighter jet on eBay

A Chinese businessman has bought a MiG-21f plane from a U.S. seller on the online auction website eBay for $24,730 and plans to use it to decorate an empty space at his offices.
The Beijing News newspaper identified the Chinese buyer as Zhang Cheng. "I like to collect valuable items. I have the buying power and my company has an empty space where I can display the plane," the newspaper quoted Zhang as saying.

The eBay website for the transaction shows the plane is currently located in Lewiston, Idaho. It said the fighter jet, last flown in 1995, has been inspected by a museum and found to be in excellent condition. The Beijing News quoted Zhang as saying he learned from the seller's son by telephone that the fighter jet was retired by the Czech military.

It wasn't immediately clear if the fighter jet can be imported into China. Zhang said he is waiting for government authorities to get back to him, The Beijing News reported. "There is the precedent of a Chinese company buying a retired aircraft carrier, but I don't know if this jet plane is a banned item," Zhang reportedly said.

Zhang was apparently referring to the Soviet-built Minsk aircraft carrier that a Chinese company bought and converted into a floating theme park in the southern city of Shenzhen. The company went bankrupt and recently put the ship up for sale.

Buying Aircraft isn't a new thing on eBay, but it appears to be getting more accessable now. The Question is, what hardware I should buy?...

Rogue Trooper

You'll have to have read 2000 AD to know why the super soldiers of Eidos' upcoming Rogue Trooper are blue, but you'll only need a few minutes of gameplay time to see that these troops are tough as nails. Cut up with muscles and super-human soldier instincts, these bright blue genetic infantrymen are Smurfs on steroids.

2000 AD is a British institution and, thus, a perfect fit for the UK-based publisher Eidos and UK-based developer Rebellion. Basically: Humanity is at war with the evil Nort, and the battleground is the planet of Nu Earth. Rather than sending humans to do the dirty work on the hostile atmosphere of Nu Earth, the powers that be genetically-engineered regiments of Genetic Infantryman, the aforementioned blue bombers.

You control Rogue, squad leader of four G.I.s, on a drop mission from a space cruiser into Nu Earth. You and Gunnar, Bagman and Helm, and the rest of your regiment jump into drop pods like recently in Quake IV to start the incursion, but the Nort are waiting. Somehow, they knew exactly where and when the landing would be and ambushed them. Without going too deep into the story, your regiment has been betrayed and Rogue goes follows the path of vengeance for the deaths of his comrades.

Rogue Trooper handles similar to a lot of other third-person-shooters out there with a few extra twists. Rogue can take cover behind rocks and walls, similar to the mechanic in James Bond: Everything or Nothing. While taking cover, he can aim at enemy Nort, and by hitting the fire button, you'll pop out and fire several rounds with your automatic machine gun. You can also blind fire at the push of a button -- Rogue will push his gun out and fire randomly to provide cover for fellow G.I.s. Rogue will also get his hands on rocket launchers and gun emplacements, like simple machine gun turrets to anti-spacecraft flak guns.

Despite Rogue's proficiency for Nort-smashing, his three squad mates will eventually meet their own respective dooms at the hands of the Nort. A funny thing about those genetic super clones, though: these guys never really die. The personalities of the clones are encoded into bio-chips, implanted at the base of a G.I.s skull, and Rogue can cut his friends open and remove the chips. If enough time passes, the chips will power down and the personalities will be lost forever. But Rogue manages to use his three chip-slots to preserve the lives of his friends and pick up their special abilities on the way.

Gunnar's chip plugs into Rogue's machine gun, for example, and unlocks an auto targeting reticule. By aiming at the helmets of enemy Nort, a head-shot icon will also appear, indicating a one-shot, one-kill situation. Helm's chip plugs into Rogue's helmet and he'll dispense advice along the way. Bagman's chip hooks up to Rogue's backpack. Then you'll be able to grab scrap metal, process it into your backpack for upgrades to your ammunition and your weapons, which adds some minor role-playing elements to Rogue Trooper.

While Rogue Trooper was released on April 21st in the UK it hasn't got much publicity or reviews as it's US launch won't be until the end of May apparently, and as the US controls most of the worlds media, you probably won't hear anything about it until then. If it appears good to my trusted sources (and based on my appraisal of any demo) then I'll give it a go and tell you all about it. But let's face it, it HAS to be better than the last conversion of a 2000AD character to the game screen- Dredd Vs. Death doesn't it?

Lots of Galactica News

I know some of you less technologically advanced folk watch Battlestar Galactica on Sky One, and don't worry, I'm not going to spoil the horrific and devestating surprise of the the 90min season finale. I'm just going to tell you that Galactica will return for a third season.
SCI FI Channel announced that its hit original series will return in October with a full 20-episode third season. Production on the third season began in Vancouver, Canada, only a few days ago.

Battlestar Galactica brings back the ensemble cast, which includes Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. As previously announced, Lucy Lawless will also join the cast for a 10-episode arc, reprising her role as D'Anna Biers, a Cylon and will be executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Season three promises even more of the drama, intrigue and action that viewers have come to expect from the series.

The Sci Fi Channel will also delve into the backstory of Battlestar Galactica with a new series that looks at the years leading up to humanity's devastation by the Cylons. The prequel, called Caprica, will be set more than 50 years prior to the events of Battlestar Galactica and focus on the lives of two families -- the Adamas (ancestors of future Galactica commander William) and the Graystones. Humankind's Twelve Colonies are at peace and on the verge of a technological breakthrough: the first Cylon.

As Battlestar Galactica is about a lot more than space battles, Caprica will be as much family drama as sci-fi tale. Remi Aubuchon (24) is writing the pilot script; Galactica veterans Ronald D. Moore and David Eick will executive produce it.

1000 Hits in 24 Days!

Visitor 5000 hit on April 1st but visitor 6000 hit on Monday night! I'm not going to bother congrat- ulating them or thanking them because they're French. Still, it's an impressive statistic. So much so that I'm not even going to bother giving a damn about visitor 7, 8. or 9000 but a prize will be given to visitor 10000!* or the closest visitor after that, that I can actually identify and contact. At this rate I'll need it in about 6 weeks LOL.

The pie chart figures show a dramatic and disturbing downturn from visitors here in Ireland but increased visitors from every other corner of the planet and the absence of visitors from the evil empire of Unknown Country is noted.

Good news on the browser front IE is down to 51%, Firefox at 38. Safari has dramatically risen to 6% while the dregs are shared between Mozilla, Netscape and Opera.

As for what brings people here:
  • marsoc
  • gladiatrix
  • "schmidt & bender"
  • Spiderman 3 teaser
  • adventures of briscoe county
  • secnav donald winter
A google for "sentences for cathoilc priests" found a random comment from Cubaboy.

I'm curious as to why someone in Information Systems, U.S. House of Representatives in Washington would come here too look at info on the Thunder Chickens. Maybe they were looking for info on the most recent Osprey mishap the other day ago involving the Chickens themselves. Don't worry lads I won't be reporting that another one dropped out of the sky. Only positive spin on the military here :D

Finally, a big hello to all my readers in Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio (or at least the one who keeps coming back).

*Before you all start clicking incessantly after 9900, I'll be resetting the counter or not counting more than 10 individual non-consecutive visits within a 24hour period and/or more than 1 consecutive visit at a time interval less than 30 minutes in length. Meaning you can't just sit there and refresh the page.

Shatner sings to God

This is a clip from the 2005 AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to George Lucas show. In it, William Shatner comes on stage and sings to him. Later on, Shatner is joined by a group of dancing stormtroopers on stage. Has to be seen to be believed.

Star Trek XI

Variety reported today that J.J.Abrams, the man behind Alias and Lost and the director of what will surely be one of the greatest movies of the year: Mission Impossible 3 will be taking the helm of Star Trek XI and it will be produced by Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk (the Lost team).

Apparently Harve Bennett's original idea for a Starfleet Academy movie has been fleshed out and will be made whole, and the movie will feature a young James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock at the Academy and going out on their first missions.

Back when the idea was first brought to my attention about 15 years ago now I guess, at first I thought it was stupid. Even today my first reaction was 'No'. However after reviewing all of the information and not just the narrow-minded vision of the man who infomed me (granted he only has access to about a third of the infomation I'm privvy to), I'm going to give this idea my full support and welcome it. This will be a new era of Star Trek and it will succeed where it has failed on the past decade. Why?

No Berman, no Braga.

This is all that was needed all along. Everything in the world of Star Trek will be allright from now on. More as it happens folks...

The end of the road for Connery, Yeshh indeed! *UPDATED*

It is expected that one of the greatest living silver screen legends Sir Sean Connery is to officially announce his retirement from Hollywood when he collects his Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Film Institute later this year.

Connery, 75, who is recuperating after undergoing surgery to remove a Kidney tumor in January, plans to spend his time writing books instead. He says, "I have retired for good. It's been a bit rough since Christmas but I'm perfectly OK and I feel well. In fact, I'm working on a history book."

Harrison Ford, meanwhile, is campaigning for the actor to return to the screen one last time for the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie. *Sigh* Personally I don't want the last screen appearence of Connery to be old-man-Jones calling Harrison Ford "junior" when Connery is only 12 years his senior- it was a bit silly first time round and my be even sillier now. Jesus Connery did The Rock when he was Ford's age now. No the true Hollywood send off for Sir Sean was the dignified send off in Finding Forrester (I've erased LXG from menory) so let me have that Harrison, please.

*UPDATE*

According to this Sean may not be retiring after all. The plot thickens...

Briscoe on DVD

It was October when I published this in which I exclusively* revealed that Bruce Campbell and the producers of Briscoe County Jr. had started nagging Warner to release the series on DVD.
Well it just goes to show that nagging someone for something constantly for several months will pay off as I'm pleased to reveal details of The Adventures Of Briscoe County Jr on DVD.

Warner Home Video at long last will release The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.: The Complete Series on DVD. The eight-disc DVD collector's set will feature all 27 episodes of the series, along with a host of extras on the eighth disc including: A Reading From the Book of Bruce, The History of Brisco County - a "making of" documentary featuring star Bruce Campbell, cast and crew, Tools of the Trade - an interactive map that launches into min-featurettes about the gadgets and props used in the show and A Brisco County Writer's Room - a roundtable/ reunion discussion with show creators, writers and producers.

The Region 1 edition will be available for $99.99 (or cheaper online) from July 18th.

*May not actually have been an exclusive.

DiCaprio Star Wars Toys - Update

As previously reported, Leonardo DiCaprio put his Star Wars collection up for auction recently. What we did want to know was why? Well apparently it was to benefit his foundation devoted to environmental protection. The figures, raised just over $100,000 for the foundation, according to Dan Morphy, the auction company's chief operating officer.

DiCaprio, who was on location in Africa last week, was "very pleased with the results," Morphy said."

"I don't care about the enviornment", Colonel Creedon said in a statement "..and (DiCaprio) still can't act"

The Simpsons Movie Teaser Trailer

Safe to say that this is in the top spot for the Best Teaser Trailer for the "Whopper Awards 2006".

DOOM DVD not doomed

The DVD of the fantastic DOOM movie was released on Region 2 recently. I have had the R1 release for a few months, but I've only now had a chance to view it. It's identical to the R2 release only with a better foil embossed cover.

Read my exciting 5-Star review of DOOM here.

The features on the one-disc release are slightly above standard for a release like this- You get the full First Person Shooter Sequence which shows- restores the entire five minute sequence and includes background information by visual effects supervisor John Farhat. A "Basic Training" featurette which documents the rigorous training process for cast member The Rock and his co-stars, including weapons and physical training. In another featurette, make-up artist Jeff Dawn reveals how he created make-up effects for the climactic sequence featuring The Rock. Of great intrest was "Doom Nation", a chronicle of the worldwide, phenomenal success of the DOOM video game, most nostalgic indeed.

The Rock offered insights about the DVD bonus features on the Doom set during filming: "From day one, I was on the phone to the DVD people," he said. "They've been here every day and I've been talking shit to them every day. 'Come over and get a shot of this!' There was the one scene when they had hired real amputees with no legs and no arms… and when their prosthetics were put on, it looks like a chunk of meat is taken out of their bodies. It was surreal and tough that week to be there and I made sure the DVD people were there.

When Baby Showers Go Bad

A baby shower is another stupid invention where the family and friends of expectant parents are "showered" with baby gifts etc. I'm sure you've all seen or heard of one from US originated movies and television.
What was intresting about this one reported on Sky News, was that a guest was shot and several other guests as well as the expectant mother herself were beaten with a stick!!!
Needless to say that this has changed my opinion of this particular event; If this is the level of excitment and violence that exist at these things perhaps I'll start producing my own children now...

I had better send them a picture of me...

The Marine Corps Heritige Foundation will open a new Marine Museum on Nov 10th 2006.

Currently under construction on a 135-acre site adjacent to the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, the National Museum of the Marine Corps will be a lasting tribute to U.S. Marines -- past, present and future.

Boasting World-class, interactive exhibits using the most innovative technology will surround visitors with irreplaceable artifacts including the flag raised over Iwo Jima and immerse them in the sights and sounds of Marines in action, like the landing on Iwo Jima on D-Day in 1945, and the 1968 Khe Sanh siege during the Vietnam War. Visitors will be able to experience the intensity of boot camp...or test their rifle skills with a M-16 at the Marine Corps practice range.

Right! Who's going with me?

New statistics and visitor 5000!!

Well I haven't published my figures for a while and I guess this is a good time as any even though there's nothing much to report. Almost the entire United States have been searching for the Spiderman 3 teaser poster, the X-Men 3 trailer, infomation on MARSOC and the Osprey all of which I covered in depth here.
All the perverts seem to have migrated here insted according to Cubaboy himself.

I did get one search for "sizemore prosthetic" which obviously linked a result to an older article and one for "multiple orgasms" which bizzarely brought someone here as did "last neighbours episode"??

I'm not going to publish browser share figures as the dominance of IE6 is too depressing and upsetting.

Elsewhere though, this caught my eye while researching bird-flu. You know you're truly famous when you do a common search for something and your own photograph appears somewhere you didn't put it.

Congratulations to the person in Santa Ana, California who on Apr 1 2006 at 7:59:01 pm GMT became visitor # 5000 after clicking to come here following a search for the "schmidt & bender 3x12 variable power day scope". Congratulations: you've won a prize. Reply here to redeem it.

Madonna will be Sith!

My God! It's all over the internet! Liz Rosenburg and a spokesperson for Lucasfilm just confirmed that the reigning Queen of Pop and God himself may in fact, soon be working together. This comes after this photo was leaked to the internet of Madonna's audition for the forthcoming Star Wars television project.

"Madonna is an admittedly unusual choice for us, but George has always been a fan and he really wants to take the saga in a bold new direction." Said the Lucasfilm rep. "Seriously, what could possibly be more unexpected?"

Rosenberg concurs. "Turns out Rocco is a huge, huge Star Wars fan and Madge initially went in just so he could tour the ranch." But, after a lengthy two hour meeting in which Lucas outlined his vision for the top secret project, she was completely sold on both her possible role and the story. "Madonna was surprised by how well this just might suit her."

Even more compelling is the long delayed start date of 2008. This gives the recently recrowned disco queen plenty of time to conduct her summer tour and even work on an album or two before turning up in the bay area for what would undoubtedly be a lengthy stay until the production moves to Australia where principle photography is rumoured to take place.

"Madonna obviously knows this is a real risk," explained Rosenburg. "And definitely wants to be around for the prelimenary planning stages if at all possible."

Just how sold is Madonna on her participation in the series? She's already sent out two assistants with camcorders to scout possible residences for Guy and the family. Moreover, she has even turned to Lucas on school advice for the kiddies. So it does appear that the "stars" may already be very much aligned for this one.

Ok, so it ain't the most convincing of April 1st jokes but it gave me a laugh.

2IGTV Episode 15

In this Episode we feature the return of news from the Sam Jackson camp with the latest on "Snakes On A Plane" which is already sestined to be an awful movie that will achieve an enormus cult following. Only such cult followers will be excited by the news that SeaQuest DSV is being released on DVD. There's regrettably going to be a third Ocean's flick. Windows Vista is unsurprisingly being delayed. Instead of creating a proper game such as an extension of the Turok licence, BuenaVista Interactive are making a PC game of the most unlikely TV show to warrant a game... brace yourself. And there going to be a certain General returning to Stargate next season.

Snipers have new scope

Marine snipers at Camp Mercury, Iraq put the Corps’ latest sniper optic to the test and it proved to be spot-on. Proof is one less bad guy planting roadside bombs.

Snipers of 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment proved the 3x12 variable-powered Schmidt & Bender M-8541 Scout-Sniper Day Scope’s usefulness a few weeks ago when they killed an insurgent planting improvised explosive devices near Fallujah. It was the first recorded combat kill with the new optic.

“It was kind of a big deal with the sniper community to get the first kill with the new scope,” said Gunnery Sgt. Paul Starner, platoon sergeant for the battalion’s Scout-Sniper Platoon, who squeezed off the shot. “After the kill, we did a picture-perfect extraction. They didn’t even know we were there.”

The scope’s ability to allow Marines to target insurgents wasn’t a one-time stint, though. Marines in the platoon reaffirmed the scope’s combat utility seven times since then, according to Starner.

The new Schmidt & Bender allows better positive target identification, according to 2nd Lt. Jake Cusack, Sniper Platoon commander. The Schmidt & Bender scope has a greater light-gathering capability, boasting a 50 mm objective lens and illuminated mil-dot reticle pattern, better adapted to drop insurgents at a distance in low light conditions as well as daylight.

“We’re here to find the enemy and kill him, and that’s what we’re doing,” Starner said. “Any time you make them think twice about what they’re doing, you’re doing your job. I want it in their heads that we’re watching them.”

Colonel Creedon is reported to have said "I want!"

DiCaprio follows the Colonel's lead

Overrated movie-star Leonardo DiCaprio is copying a recent brainwave I had to sell of some of my Star Wars action figures. It just goes to prove that people like him need strong and decisive leadership and incredible ideas like mine.

I do wonder why is he doing it though? It's not like he needs the money. So he didn't make a movie last year- he's making three this year. He's selling so much stuff now it's as if he's rejecting the "Church of Lucas" altogether!

Perhaps I'm just peeved that he'll make 5 times more money by selling this Jawa with vinyl cape* alone than I did on selling 100 Star Wars figures, and he has dozens of more lots up for sale, see them here.

*The vinyl cape Jawa is one of the most expensive Star Wars figures of the vintage line and was produced in small quantities before it was replaced by Jawa with a cloth cape. It can still fetch a handsome sum outside it's packaging.

Chef Dead!

Only days after 2IGTV exclusively* broke the news that Chef, the character voiced by singer Isaac Hayes on South Park, was leaving the show in protest to the producers satire of scientology, I've just learned of the death of Chef!!!!

Chef appeared to die a grisly death on the show Wednesday night as he was struck by lightning, impaled, shot, mauled by a mountain lion, eaten by a grizzly bear, and, oh, yes, accused of being a child molester. At Chef's funeral, one of the South Park gang says in a eulogy: "A lot of us don't agree with the choices Chef has made in the last few days. Some of us feel hurt and confused that he seemed to turn his back on us. But we can't let the events of the past few weeks take away the memories of how Chef made us smile." Finally, the South Park tyke remarks, "We shouldn't be mad at Chef for leaving us. We should be mad at that fruity little club for scrambling his brains." Although Hayes's voice was used in the episode, the dialogue apparently was pieced together from previous episodes. The Associated Press, noting that Chef received "a true South Park send off," indicated that the ending, in which Chef's "fruity little club" tries to revive him, leaves open the possibility of his return.

*It wasn't really an exclusive it just looks good in this context.

Pope Is A Man Of iPod (so is The Colonel)

The Ex-Nazi Pope Benedict XVI has an iPod. He got one as gift by staff at Vatican Radio. Officials have loaded it with his favourite tracks, mostly religious music, plus pieces by Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin. The pontiff has even been spotted around the Vatican using his iPod and distinctive white earphones. "He is very pleased with the iPod," a spokesman said. "The Holy Father likes to unwind listening to it and is of the opinion that this sort of technology is the future."

Some of the other well known iPod users include the Queen, President Bush, Tony Blair and Colonel Creedon himself. Colonel Creedon has this to say about the iPod:

Everyone should have an iPod. Well that statement may not be accurate, let's say instead that "everyone should have an MP3 player", or at least everyone who listens to music regularly. Bottom line is if you don't have an iPod (in any of its incarnations) or a Zen or some portable device in this day and age- than I have news for you- you're nobody.

I think it should be made law that people are forced to get MP3 players and people who don't want them should be dragged out like dogs onto the street and shot. I personally don't understand how some people can live without them- they're quite happy swapping these giant 4.5 inch discs called CD's in and out of their Sony CD players. How archaic and so 20th century of them. Its backward Neanderthals like these that cling to ancient technology that's holding the human race back from conquering the stars. Christ! They make me puke.

VMM-263 "Thunder Chickens" take to the skies in Ospreys

The future of Marine Corps aviation took a large step forward as the first operational MV-22 Osprey squadron was activated at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina.

“Commissioning (Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron-263) is a historic day for the ‘Thunder Chickens,’ for our Corps and for our nation,” said Maj. Gen. Thomas L. Moore, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing commanding general. “We have introduced a transformational aircraft into our nation’s forces with the ‘Thunder Chickens.’” A transformational aircraft because it capitalizes on both the best aspects of the rotary wing and the best aspects of the fixed wing turbo-propeller, Moore explained.

“The Osprey is much more survivable than the CH-46E ‘Sea Knight’ because of it’s range and it’s speed,” said Moore. “It’s a much more capable aircraft and we expect it to perform excellently in battle.” A capable aircraft that has been in the making since the early 1960’s, some feel the delay has produced the best result.

“I have to tell you, waiting for something this good has been worth while,” said Gen. Robert Magnus, assistant commandant of the Marine Corps. “This is a tremendous aircraft. While we are at war, it is a tremendously more survivable platform for the Marines who are in the fight.”

VMM-263, home to more than 150 Marines and the successor to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-263 which cased its colors in June 2005, will carry on the proud name, “Thunder Chickens,” and also the legacy of the former CH-46E “Sea Knight” squadron.

Honored to carry on the name, “Thunder Chickens,” the Marines of VMM-263 are thrilled by the chance to become the first operational Osprey squadron, said Sgt. Maj. Grant VanOostrom, VMM-263 sergeant major.

“They are very excited because they see it as a culmination of those who have gone before them,” said VanOostrom. “They just happen to be the chosen ones who get to bring it into its current existence; we get to reap the rewards of others.”

And VMM-263 can be expected to reap the almost countless rewards, such as being able to travel at speeds of nearly 300 mph, twice the speed of any current helicopter, have up to five times the range of travel and carry three times the payload.

“The Osprey will allow us to self-deploy these aircraft from New River, or (Air Station) Miramar, across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, to anywhere this great nation wants to plant its flag within two to three days,” said Magnus.

Uncertain of the exact date when the Osprey will be supporting ground forces overseas, the squadron feels assured that it will be in the near future.

“We expect VMM-263 to be deployed within the coming year,” said Moore. “We can’t give an exact date, because we aren’t 100 percent sure.”

“There are two things the American people should know about this aircraft,” said Gen. Michael W. Hagee, 33rd commandant of the Marine Corps, during his visit to Marine Corps Air Station New River Feb. 24. “One, it will change the way we fight; it’s faster, larger, air refuelable and the technology is state of the art. Two, it’s the safest aircraft in our inventory. It’s been tested and proven ready to perform.”

And though tremendous efforts will have to made by the “Thunder Chickens” before the first Osprey squadron is ready to deploy, a sigh of relief can be breathed by the Marines, families and friends of the program who sacrificed so much to get to where the stand up could be possible, said Moore.

“We are bringing forth the new capability to replace what has been the backbone of Marine aviation in the CH-46,” said Moore. “With that capability, we take rotary wing assault support, now tiltrotor wing assault support, ahead into the future and assure the success of Marines in battle. We are committing the Osprey to the gunfight.”

SiN Episodes: Emergence

1998 was a long, long time ago, especially in PC gaming years. You may recall SiN, one of that year's most highly anticipated games...until it released closely alongside a little dark horse called Half-Life, which blew it out of the water. Nevertheless after playing the SiN demo I thought it had some interesting stuff going for it if it wasn't as full of bugs as the first release of a new Microsoft OS. Now, after seven years in dormancy, the studio is readying an epic follow-up.

Well while there's not going to be a sequel as such, there is going to be a continuation of the SiN story but in episodic format much like Valve are doing with Half-Life 2. In fact considering that Ritual couldn't beat Valve's Half-Life with SiN they've decided to join them! The upcoming SiN Episodes looks to combine Valve's Source engine with an ambitious business model. Rather than spend months and months slaving away over a sprawling game and competing for shelf space, Ritual has decided to release this new SiN in nine serialized installments for delivery over Steam. The forst will be entitled "Emergence".

SiN Episodes expands on the role of Colonel John R. Blade, a battle worn hero in charge of HardCorps, an elite military strike force with a long history of conflict with SinTEK, a powerful multibillion dollar empire headed up by the nefarious Elexis Sinclaire, a beautiful, brilliant, and ruthless scientist who is out to remake humanity according to her own twisted vision. Joining Blade on his mission are JC, a HardCorps hacker with a secret to keep, and Jessica Cannon, a fiery rookie who can find her way into any secure facility. The action takes place in the futuristic Freeport City, a mishmash of urban elements reminiscent of San Francisco, New York, and Tokyo all lumped together. As Blade, players will fight to expose Sinclaire's evildoing and prevent her from doing more harm to Freeport's citizens. At least, that's the basic gist of the story. Other details will be fleshed out over the game's nine episodes in a three act trilogy.

Visually, Emergence is phenomenal. The main section of it, takes place in a capsized oil tanker as Blade searches for a weapons dealer. Lighting and graphics textures have the future-gone-awry feel that the first SiN captured so well. The game uses the Source engine, so the physics are similar to Half-Life 2, although Ritual has made some modifications and tweaks to the engine to give it a personalized touch. The studio has been adamant about making the experience as interactive as possible. As in Doom 3 (and very much like the original game), players can interact with consoles within the environment. Throughout Ritual's testing, the team has been analyzing where most gamers seem to play around in the game world and they're adjusting elements of these areas to make them even more interactive.

SiN Episodes will also feature sections in which Blade rides shotgun while HardCorps member Jessica Cannon commandeers a vehicle. In a recent demonstration to press on the progressive destructibility of vehicles, the Ritual team put Jessica in god mode and proceeded to shoot up the car until there was virtually nothing left -- no doors, no trunk, even the roof eventually blows off -- but Blade could still get in and out of the car. Besides the usual armed guards that make up FPS enemy fodder, Blade also faces new mutants in SiN Episodes. There are characters that grow in size and strength when they consume extra mutagens, and one of Emergence's biggest boss battles finds Blade up against a colossal mutant out for his blood. If their analogy that Emergence's boss battle is like Alien and the second episode resembles Aliens, then gamers are going to have plenty to look forward to.

One of the finest examples of Ritual's tweaks to the Source engine is in their handling of health power-ups within the game. Health is portable. Rather than just having a wall-mounted station a la Half-Life 2, a player can take a health canister with them and carry it around. If Blade gets caught in a firefight, he can toss down the can, and if necessary, shoot it to create a vapor that will constantly charge his health while he's blasting away at mutations. Weapons within the game seem to be a mixture of different types that should be familiar to most FPS fans, although the secondary fires bring something fresher to the table. Handguns don't just fire bullets; they double as anti-mutagenic agents. A secondary blast from a shotgun allows the bullets to bounce off the walls and theoretically bend corners and hit someone on the other end of a hallway. Blade uses incendiary grenades rather than frags to take down enemies.

One of the most enticing elements of SiN Episodes is the rapidly adaptive AI settings. A circular AI system checks players' stats every two minutes across five factors -- weapons choices, damage, health, NPCs, and pacing -- and adjusts accordingly. Rather than letting players pick Easy difficulty and plow through an episode, the settings adjust in real time. For example, a skilled FPS player who nails lots of headshots early on will find that as he or she progresses through the game, more enemies with helmets will start showing up. At the other end of the spectrum, a novice player who's having a tougher time will find enemies who are easier to battle and more likely to engage in dangerous behavior -- like standing too close to flammable canisters. Additionally, a player's actions in one game will ultimately affect what can happen in future installments, which exponentially increases the replay value for each four to six hour-long episode.

There are no plans to implement multiplayer features in Emergence at the moment, although Ritual mentioned that multiplayer modes should find their way into future episodes. The game is also being released independent of a retail publisher via the Steam service. No actual price point has been announced yet, but the team wants to keep each episode below twenty dollars per download. It is possible that after a few episodes, there will be a packaged retail version, but it's still unconfirmed at this point. Also not officially confirmed, but very promising, is the possibility that SiN Episodes will be ported over to consoles and be available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace. If so, it will be a first for Microsoft's new console, as no one has attempted to release a game of this size and magnitude for Xbox Live download.

SiN Episodes is, if nothing else, an ambitious endeavor on the part of Ritual to create an amazing serialized gaming experience. Novels have done it for centuries; Stephen King did it a decade ago with The Green Mile, and movies are built on it, with The Lord of the Rings trilogy merely being the most recent and profitable example. Ritual is doing the same thing for gaming, and judging by what we've seen, they could have a huge hit on their hands when SiN Episodes: Emergence drops in Q3 of this year.

Earth: We have a problem!

Being laid up for a few days had me reading all sorts of useless crap. Get this for instance:
The population of the planet has grown. The last time I checked- which admittedly was when I was in school, the population was just over 5.5 billion people. Frighteningly, (according to Wired) the Earth has reached an estimated population of 6.5 billion living breathing humans. This naturally presents a whole host of problems which are scary if you ask the question "How many people can the planet actually sustain?".

MARSOC opens for business.

As I've been reporting now for the past few months- The United States Marine Corps has formed their own Special Operations unit and on Friday it oficially established the separate command devoted to small-unit tactics and stealthy reconnaissance.

It's work the USMC has done since World War II, but never before as part of the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). This revolutionary change means that battalions of Marines will be focused on special ops work just as Navy SEALs and Army Green Berets and Rangers are.

The Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made the change official after arriving at Camp Lejeune aboard an Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. He said special ops Marines will help "seek new and innovative ways to take the fight to the enemy."

The demand for highly trained special operations forces has increased as the U.S. war against terrorists continues. "We face a ruthless enemy that lurks in shadows," Rumsfeld said. "It has become vital the Department of Defense and armed forces arrange ourselves in new and unconventional ways to succeed in meeting the peril of our age."

As part of the change, the Marine anti-terrorism brigade (4th MEB) headquartered at Lejeune will go out of business and shift some of its troops to the special operations command. The command will have combat battalions on both U.S. coasts, along with support units and schools to teach special operations skills to U.S. and foreign troops.

Special operations will give the Marines "a role they otherwise would not be able to get, to do counterterrorism," said military analyst John Pike of Washington-based Globalsecurity.org.

"The struggle against evil doers is a growth industry and the Marines want a piece of that," Pike said. "The special operations community is getting a lot larger and they need more people."

Not long after he was tapped to lead the first leatherneck contingent into the nation's Special Operations Command, Brigadier Geneal Dennis J. Hejlik was asked if he had settled on a catchy nickname for his troops, like S.E.A.L.s or Rangers; General Hejlik nodded.

"Marines," he replied.

2IGTV Episode 13

In this instalment we curse unnecessarily while talking about (among other things) Sam Jackson (again), Heather Locklear (single), Paris Hilton (Mother Teresa), James Cameron's Project 880, The new Mac-Mini, MMO games (especially Jim Lee's ill conceived DC Universe one) , CBS ' new show Shark and a lengthy discussion on Battlestar Galactica (the later episodes from the end of the season which may spoil your viewing if you've not see them, don't worry we give plenty of warning) and Stargate: SG-1.

If we had left this go another day you wouldn't have the episode this week as you may have heard me coughing- the first symptoms of a deadly life-threatening virus* which has taken me down. Going back to bed now as the screen is hurting me eyes...

Spiderman 3 Teaser poster

I must say that this is one of the best teaser posters ever released.

The first instinct is to think that it's in black and white but it seems that Peter Parker will be sporting a costume similar to the "Black Costume" which I first recall him wearing in 1985 in his "The Transformers" comic-book guest appearence.

Violence and terrorism soar in the Colonel's absence

In retrospect it was probably a bad idea for me to 'advertise' that I was leaving the country for a couple of days...

At midday yesterday in Dublin, rioting broke out in protest to an Orange march through the city, an act which was about as clever as a KKK march through Alabama.

Now while I don't condone the actions of the obviously organised Republicans being joined by the Dublin scumbag elements and smashing in shop fronts and setting cars ablaze; the problem in the first place was the march to have been allowed to go ahead at all.

While I believe in the right to vote, the freedom of speech and the right to go and see crap like Jarhead if you want to, I do not on the other hand agree with people’s right to protest or march in any fashion especially if it would be as offensive as yesterday's attempt. If I had my way these groups of people should be encircled by police and shot with flamethrowers soon as they gather. Elsewhere "Peaceful protestors" who chain themselves to railings should have their chained arms legs or whatever amputated on site with no anaesthetic and their rotting limbs left dangling as a warning to those who would consider supporting their pointless and time-wasting actions. "Sit-down protestors" should just be shot in the ass and that'll solve their anarchical tendencies.

To add to my own ill-conceived broadcasting of my plans it was announced that an al-Qaeda cell had opened in North Cork and recruited Cubaboy. Now I have to mobilise a recon and assault unit to take back Mallow of all places.

The United Kingdom: The Best Country In The World!

Now that's obviously not an opinion I've just formulated myself having only spent a total of almost 6 weeks of my entire life there, no, it's the results of the latest useless infomation poll which no doubt cost an obscene amount of money to undertake and correlate data from.
The results basically show that the United Kingdom is simply the best country. It's citizens are also the most polite and most well educated but also the most dry, tedious, uninteresting, unexciting, insipid, monotonous and dreary people in the whole world. Imagine that?

What's going down in Bondland?

Well production has begun on the latest Bond adventure Casino Royale, with Danny Craig as the superspy himself. I'm also pleased to reveal now who he'll be joined by in the movie directed by Martin Campbell.

Eva Green has finally been cast as the enticing Vesper Lynd, renowned Danish-born actor Mads Mikkelsen has accepted the role of Le Chiffre, Bond's nemesis in the film and Jeffery Wright has joined the cast as Felix Leiter.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, said in a press release, "We are thrilled that Eva and Mads have joined the cast of Casino Royale completing a first rate international cast. They bring exceptional talent to the characters Ian Fleming described so vividly in his first James Bond novel.

"Vesper is a pivotal role in Casino Royale and it takes much more than beauty to make this role work," said Amy Pascal, Chairman of the Columbia Pictures Motion Picture Group. "When you think about the great James Bond adventures, of course you think about action and espionage, but you need to have palpable sexual tension in the movie and in casting Vesper, we really needed to up the ante, because this character is very much an equal to Bond and central to our story. We believe Eva as Vesper, Mads as Le Chiffre and Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter are perfect additions to our cast and we couldn't be more excited about the way this project has come together."

Described by Bernardo Bertolucci as "so beautiful it's indecent," Eva Green is one of the most intriguing actresses today. In 2005 she made her Hollywood debut, starring as the female lead in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven.

Mads Mikkelsen made his American debut opposite Clive Owen and Keira Knightley in the magnificient King Arthur, directed by Antoine Fuqua and has won many Scandinavian awards for his work on screen and television.

The acclaimed stage actor, Wright, who first came to film audiences' attention as the doomed artist Jean Michel Basquiat in Basquiat, has subsequently garnered critical acclaim in such films as Shaft, Ali and The Manchurian Candidate.

Casino Royale reunites Wilson and Broccoli with Martin Campbell, who directed the 1995 blockbuster Goldeneye, and will be the 21st James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production began shooting in January this year and will be released worldwide on November 17. It will be filmed on location in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.

Sizemore gets even more rehab and Hilton gets pelted with flour.

Tom Sizemore has been ordered back into rehabilitation after admitting he "slipped up" and used methamphetamines during his probation period last week. He has also been given a further three years of probation. Optimistic Sizemore says, "Slips are part of the recovery... but too many slips and of course... you're in a relapse and that's when you've got to return to rehab." Well said Tom.

Elsewhere in celebrityworld: Paris Hilton has become the latest target for PETA - literally. She was ambushed by an anti-fur activists last night and pelted with flour as she made her way to a London Fashion Week after-show party with designer Julien Macdonald, after modeling at his show earlier in the evening.

Milla's at it again in ULTRAVIOLET

Yep everyone's favourite action-movie actress Milla Jovovich is back- this time as a vampire.

Set in the late 21st century, a subculture of humans have emerged who have been modified genetically by a vampire-like disease (Hemophagia), giving them enhanced speed, incredible stamina and acute intelligence, and as they are set apart from "normal" and "healthy" humans, the world is pushed to the brink of worldwide civil war (a war between humans and hemophages) aimed at the destruction of the "diseased" population. In the middle of this crossed-fire is - an infected woman - Ultraviolet (Jovovich), who finds herself protecting a nine-year-old boy who has been marked for death by the human government as he is believed to be a threat to humans.

Filmed in Shanghai, the movie is directed by Kurt Wimmer director of the wonderfully titled One Tough Bastard, staring Brian Bosworth! However Wimmer is better known for helming one of my favourite films of all time: Equilibrium with Christian Bale.

Of course the true draw of the film is Ukrainian Uber-babe Milla Jovovich, doing what she does to make the Resident Evil films so brilliant: shoot, run, shoot, look gorgeous and shoot.

It's interesting to note that pointless crap director Robert Altman, (known only for directing the most boring shit on screen) actually was calling a film he was working on at the time Ultraviolet as well but after seeing as he'd be going up against Milla and SONY the old fart saw sence and renamed his production to Paint.

Ultraviolet opens here on June 30th.

So British!

An intresting thing on Sky News last evening: An American who sent a message in a bottle across the Atlantic has been "told off" by a Briton for littering.

Captain Harvey Bennett, of Napeague in Long Island's Hamptons resort, launched five plastic bottles into the ocean last August. Last week, one of them returned in the post with a letter telling him off for throwing rubbish into the sea.

His bottle had been picked up by Henry Biggelsworth, in Bournemouth, Dorset, according to the East Hampton Star newspaper. He said he had found the bottle on the beach at Poole Harbour and was not impressed. "You Americans don't seem to be happy unless you are mucking about somewhere," he wrote. The letter began "Dear 'Captain Bennett'" and continued: "I recently found your bottle while taking a scenic walk on the beach by Poole Harbour. "While you may consider this some profound experiment on the path and speed of oceanic currents, I have another name for it, litter."

Capt Bennett, 55, who owns a tackle shop, said he was somewhat taken aback. He said: "I kind of felt like no good deed goes unpunished." Capt Bennett said he thought the recent hurricanes had helped the bottle on its 3,000-mile transatlantic journey.

Personally I think this is just the sort of thing that could spark an international incident. The question is where would my loyalty lie? With the USMC whom I've sworn allegience, or my British neighbours, whom last year gave me an OBE?

My stuff is gone? That's not hot!

I didn't get a chance to post about Paris' most recent gaffes where during a lawsuit deposition she said she spent the summer in Europe and didn't read about an article referred to in the deposition because everything in Europe is in French, she described "Douglas" as being a weird Greek name, her own lawyer had to point out that London was in fact in the United Kingdom and she revealed to the court that the plaintiff was old, unattractive and shouldn't be in nightclubs. I know, bless her.

I love Paris Hilton. She is the living embodiment of the phrase "Dumb Blonde". You could take her home, shag her, and not feel bad about never seeing her again- even other women wouldn't hold it against you because even they would understand that you couldn't possibly put up with someone as monumentally dense as poor Paris short or long-term.

Today however the media is on her side for once albeit a bit tongue-in-cheek. Now most people would notice if a sizable number of their belongings went missing. I'm talking about things like clothing, furniture, computers, personal journals, photos and videotapes now. Not so in Paris Hilton's case, no, she heard about it from the National Enquirer.

Word of an alleged theft reached Paris after the National Enquirer contacted her rep, Elliot Mintz that the magazine had been contacted by two individuals looking to sell items belonging to the socialite, which they claimed to have purchased at auction. Hilton's legal team has reportedly been in contact with attorneys for the individuals who originally contacted the Enquirer and has threatened to file a formal complaint with the Los Angeles Police Department if the items are not returned.

Meanwhile, Mintz had strong words for anyone even considering plunking down cash in order to acquire his client's possessions. "We wish to make it perfectly clear to anyone who elects to purchase or publish any of Paris Hilton's personal papers, photos, or tapes or any other personal possessions that we will prosecute them to the highest extent of the law," Mintz stated.

The last time legal action was threatened by Hilton to anyone was the time before her sex-tape came to light, and we all know how that worked out.

The Latest On MARSOC

The Marine Corps Special Operations Command, (MARSOC) the newest addition to the special operations community, will be a complementary force that will ease the strain on other services' elite units and will contribute to the nation's readiness in the global war on terror, the new unit's commander said.

"I firmly believe that this is the right thing to do for the country at this time," said Brig. Gen. Dennis J. Hejlik, commander of Marine Corps Special Operations Command. "This irregular warfare is here to stay. If we don't start to go that way, where the force is more joint and more capable across the spectrum, that's not a good thing."

MARSOC, will formally stand up its headquarters Feb. 24 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Over the next five years, it will grow to an end strength of 2,600 people. This will include 24 foreign military training units that will deploy worldwide in support of U.S. Special Operations Command and the various combatant commanders, he said.

The Marine special operations battalion will include four Marine special operations companies, the core of which will be experienced force reconnaissance Marines taken from the mainstream Marine Corps. "There's a lot of capability there, because they're a little bit older; they're a little bit more mature," said Hejlik.

The Marine special operations companies will deploy with Marine expeditionary units. Once deployed, the companies will under operational control of the special operations commander in theater, but be available to support the MEU if needed.

Marines will only spend three to five years in MARSOC and then will be rotated back into the regular Marine Corps. This rotation will benefit the entire force, because young Marines will be trained to a higher standard in MARSOC and will bring those skills to other units, he said. It will also prevent Marines from becoming stagnant in one unit and give them opportunities for advancement and education, he said.

"If you take a quality Marine and you bring him up to a little higher standard using (special operations forces) standards, and you give him the right equipment, he is unbeatable".

Without Remorse

For the next movie based on Tom Clancy's work; director John Singleton, instead of choosing another Jack Ryan story, plans to make Without Remorse, which features the CIA operative John Clark (aka John Kelly).

Clark known to many as the commander of team Rainbow in the Rainbow Six video game series and novels has been played twice on the big screen; once by Willem Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger and more recently by Leiv Schreiber in The Sum Of All Fears, both times however playing second fiddle to the character of Jack Ryan.

Without Remorse however focuses on Clark and takes him back to his early days as a Navy S.E.A.L., called on by Admiral Greer to undertake a dangerous rescue mission in Vietnam. A previous film version was started back in 1995 but didn't make it past the pre-production stage.
Singleton (2 Fast 2 Furious, Shaft) says he is a fan of the style director Philip Noyce gave Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger. He hopes to make Remorse match the feel of those earlier Clancy thrillers. There's no word yet on who, if anyone, he has in mind for the film's key roles.
