One of my current political heroes, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld had this to say to troops asking about why America is waging the "Global War On Terror".
He replied that it is not the mission of the U.S. military to "cower behind illusory defenses" because "defenses don't work." The only defense, he said, is to go on the offensive, to stop terrorists before they attack America.
"Your mission is to be on the offense; it's to go on the attack," he said. "And that's what our forces are doing: they're engaging the enemy where they live so that they do not attack us where we live."
It's so simple when you look at the world through the eyes of Rummy isn't it?

Yes, yes ... what Rummy is saying is you're either with me, or against me
No, I believe he is saying that even if you are on my side today, potentially you may not be tomorrow, therefore, "Wipe them out... all of them!"
Colonel, I'm sure you'll appreciate this one.

My God, its pure luck she's still alive, and not been made to kneel and reieve a small high speed metal injection into the back of her head.
Still, the law is the law, eh Colonel? Maybe she should also be punished for laughing at and showing contempt for the law (although I'd have done the same).
Maybe now its time ... Rise, Colonel Vader!
"Maybe she should also be punished for laughing at and showing contempt for the law"
Absolutely damn straight man!!! Mr. Berry, the Harbour Master had been given the authority and most likely specific instructions by the British Government itself to prevent people from posing such a threat to terrorism. She got off lightly considering what they did to that Brazilian bloke.
This anarchical tramp should be locked up or otherwise "purged" from society. At the very least be made an example of to deter others from such blatant aversion towards law and order.
Answer me this. The road outside your home is a two-way street. One day they decide that they’re going to make it a one-way street without telling you. You drive out of your driveway and down the street until you come face to face with a Garda, Copper or whatever, who tells you that you’re going down a one-way street- do you (a) laugh at him and continue on your way or (b) Beg his pardon and turn your vehicle around assuring him that it won’t happen again?
What sort of a right wing propaganda blog is this?, I quote, most likely specific instructions by the British Government itself to prevent people from posing such a threat to terrorism
Threat to Terrorism
Now, there are only three possible conclusions to be drawn from the above statement,
One, The good Colonel was kipnapped by terrorists whilst on a secret mission in Kerbangistan and is now suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
Two, The Blairit government truly is incompetent.
Three, The good Colonel's reasoning has been compromised by that bit of schrapnel he took in the 'Leb whilst saving that bus load of photogenic nuns.
Which do you think it is?
Well I can say I've never been a POW (not the absence of a POW ribbon on my fruit-salad) and there's no such place as Kerbangistan. I did take mortar shrapnel at Beiruit Airport in '84 while doing somthing rather stupid, but it didn't involve any civilians at the time, but all that shrapnel was removed (but my Desert Storm shrapnel from '91 is still in my ass). I must conclude that your statement about Blair is the one to go on. But let us ask somone a bit more qualified to comment on Mr. Blair, Mr. Sith Apologist?
Seems to me that the most likely answer is both 2 and 3.
Blair is incompetent, although not so bad as his supposed succesor, Komrad Brown (to say I think lowly of him would be an understaement).
As an example of the hilariousness of his/their incompetence ... Brian Haw, the anti-Iraq war protester, who has been campaigning outside the houses of parliament for the last 3 years (camped out there, day and night).
A law was passed to ban protests withing 400yards (or meters, I forget which) of said parliament buildings from happening. And stop them it has - new ones, that is. The high courtruled that the new law has no effect on ongoing protests! So a law was passed to effectively stop the actions of one man; but with the somewhat unfortunate side-effect of the man the law was designed to stop being the one man in the entire country who is untouchable by said law. Hows that for incompetence and a waste of the publics time and money? :-)
As for the photogenic nuns - why yes, they were worth the shrapnel I'm sure, if only for the innuendo later!
Well I can say I've never been a POW (not the absence of a POW ribbon on my fruit-salad)
Of course if it was a covert mission in Krangistan, you've have to deny all knowledge. Also I note the Freundian slip not the absence of a POW ribbon. Very "Manchurian Candidate" of you Colonel. What did they do to you?, what have actions have you been programmed to commit?, Fight it Colonel!, the world needs heros and in their abscence you'll have to do!
Colonel Ciaran "Whopper" Creedon = Treadstone operative?
I've never been a POW, and I've never been the subject of brainwashing other then the resistance training regimen that is applied to Army Rangers and CIA agents.
so if you had Ranger training, how'd you end up a Marine Colonel?
I though you graduated from the Annapolis Naval Academy in June '81 prior to your being commissioned as 2nd Lt?
Hmmm! Methinks you know too much Mr. Apologist.
You are correct on those events and dates however. Nevertheless if you're reading the same file as I think you are; you should see that in Apr '84 I began USMC Force Recon training which includes the 10 week US Army Ranger School at Ft. Benning as part of the Recon Marines advance schooling.
Theres an old saying amongst the Bedioun tribes of the Sahara, Denial ain't just a river in EgyptThe mind is a fragile thing and quite often suppresses the memory of traumatic events. it is my honest belief that with our support the Colonel can make a full recovery from his time in captivistan.
Just curious, but such a man as the Colonel can't go through life with out picking up enemies but who is his nemesis?
Suggestions?
Ha! Maybe they tortured him with the oft-discussed prosthetic!
I'd certainly repress that memory.
You're right. I do have a surpressed memory: I watched Sphere once.
There’s a man somewhere who uses the pseudonym "Steve Gibney", I've always regard him as my nemesis. I believe he's operating in the UK at the moment...
how'd you end up a Marine Colonel?
Standing on the backs of people like me Sith-man. On the backs of people like me...
That and a few too many knocks on the head!
Na, The Colonel needs a real bad bastard for a personel enemy. How about that Chris fella?, he's got a dungeon/basement hideout filled with hideous things and he's German!
I think its time for the Colonel and the Colonel only to answer a few questions (unaided) ... which of the following statements do you agree with?
1. Obstacles do not exist to be surrendered to, but only to be broken
2. The greatest delight is to mark one’s enemy, prepare everything, avenge oneself thoroughly, and then go to sleep
3. The only real power comes out of a long rifle
4. A lie told often enough becomes the truth
1. By law I'm required to denounce all Nazi propaganda.
2. Stalin was perfectly sane wasn't he? I honestly don't even think I can comprehend the statement. I go to skeep when I'm tired right?
3. The Barrett M82A1 sniper rifle is the only thing that I'd consider a "long-rifle" today and it can shoot through the engine block of a truck, but if I wanted mre power I'd use a Gunship or something, Stalin's exact words may have lost their literal meaning, but the underlying fact that you need military power to have real power is probably true.
4. No, Lenin was saying that if a lie was told often enough without being denied, then naturally it would be believed by many, eventually make it's way into a history book as fact- but it's still a lie, it's just that no one knows it is...
interesting that you avoided the hitler question and agreed with Stalin ...
Well there are things that Hitler said that could be agreed with, for instance he may have said "The French are cowards" while having lunch with Joe Goebbels one fine day. But at the Academy we're thought to filter out fact from fascist propaganda.
Stalin and his communist views are accepted, if not adopted by our society, but fascism is not.
as a Nobel prize winner said Not that communism and fascism are essentially the same. Fascism is the stage reached after communism has proved an illusion
You really ought to be rejecting both completely if you love democracy ...
I always thought Peter Drucker said that? He has no Nobel Prize unless they're giving it out for management theory nowadays..
Whomever sent it anyway is correct, but if we started shooting commies before they turned fascist then we'd loose all the defectors and they come in handy.
Friedrich Hayek - Economist and prolific classical liberal scholar, student of Ludwig von Mises, winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1974. Author of 130 articles and 25 books.
Drucker may also have said it at some point!
It's a shame that such a champion of individual liberty and human rights would have stolen a line from a management theorist. I think that takes this "freedom of speech" lark a bit too literally. Such freedom does not allow plagerism!
Maybe I should have said "as a nobel prize winner quoted" ...
Still, hardly plagiarism as it was properly referenced
I just think it would have made more of an impact to the discussion if you had used a quote that he actually came up with himself.
If I say "I'll be back" on a post on my blog: Would you then say to someone "I'll be back - like Ciaran said in his blog" or I'll be back - like Schwartzenegger always says"?
Ok, where I was going with this ...
Communism and Fascism amount to the same thing (totalitarian state with bugger all freedom); but strangely you can accept the ideology which is actually responsible for far more civilian deaths. The source of the quote is a very distant second when compared to its usage in this context.
( . )( . )
Accepted was misleading, I mean that it's tolerated as it allows western civilisation to grow richer and strive to overcome any percieved technological deficiency over the insular communist society. China's recent foray into space lead the President Bush to authorise the billions needed to go to Mars, a necessary step in establishing my secret base, er I mean a "beacon of global unity" on the Red Planet. The fall of communism in Russia impacted heavilly on Hollywood- almost immediatly they ran out of bad guys, I'd wish for communism back there so that we wouldn't get such improbable villians as in modern Bond films.
Back in them days good and evil was a defined as black and white. Now your enemies are on your own team- or wose still your team commander!!
I feel the need to step in here and clarify that Bush announced a trip to Mars but the only funding he gave NASA to do this was one Million dollars, thats not going to cover the cost of coffee for the project.
Master Guns, first off like the name, catchy, got style.
I've always felt that if a Team Leader isn't hated and feared by his own team, then he's doing the job wrong.
Are you implying that the Colonel shoulkd start a new franchise,
The Complete Bastard's guide to Team Leadership?
Chapter 1: Do what I say or you'll be doubletapped in the crotch
Chapter 2: Disbanding the senate
Chapter 3: Investing power in the regional governers
Chapter4: Why didn't I realise I was going to get chucked down a lift shaft whilst shooting force lighning
Maybe we could rename him Colonel Palpatine
"He'd to dangerous to remain alive"
My men love me, always. I challenge you to find any man who has served with me to say I'm unjust, unfair or sane :)
Master Guns seems to have a few issues with you?
Maybe he wasn't as did as you thought when you left him behind (or whatever, its still not clear - yet)
Feel free to speak your mind, Guns, I'll make sure your grievances reach the relevant authorities!
Stay out of it you. You're not safe from an 'accident' either.
This 'issue' is obviously between me and him!
*is silenced*
lol
Nothing will stick Sith-Man, he's to perfect, the hero, the future Commandant maybe even further, they'll never let me discredit him. His own sence of honor and guilt are all I can use against him.
And his ego, don't forget that :-)
Incompetence, don't forget his massive incompetence, that would wprk very well against him.
If I wasn't comptetant don't you think they'd have pinned these on my shoulders by now?
Apparently the Colonel passed up the opportunity to wear those when he declined promotion to Brigadier General in October 2004.
Declined ... maybe this was the favour Lt. Gen Raymond Ayres needed to not find him complicit in the Osprey affair?
Intresting theory Mr.Apologist. But it's just that, a theory...
And a correct one?
No!
