Mission Impossible 3

Mission Impossible was a good film. I was a fan of the 'updated' series in 1988 with Phil Morris and Peter Graves and I felt that it was a faithful representation of the changes in the world since then. M:I-2 was not a faithful representation, but it became one of my favourite movies of all time. I have an M:I-2 cardboard standee from the foyer of the Capitol , one side of which is framed in my office and I even got a gift last Christmas of one of Tom Cruise's spent 9mm cartridges encased in resin from the Biocyte shootout scene.
But enough about Mission Impossible 2, because Mission Impossible 3 is almost upon us. The third installment in the Tom Cruise action film series takes the franchise in a new direction... this time it's personal. The trailer hints at a story that's clearly centered more around the character of Ethan Hunt than the previous movies.
Alex Kurtman and Roberto Orci the screenwriters have really fleshed out Cruises' character this time around. "The fun of Mission: Impossible for us is finding out how to make a movie that was really an exploration of that character in a way that the previous two movies have not done, aside from some unbelievable action sequences," Kurtzman says.
M:I:III stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Michelle Monaghan, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Simon Pegg, (yes I said Simon Pegg- don't ask)!
Director J.J. Abrams (Alias), is currently lensing in Shanghai. It'll also film in United States and Italy and it's set for a May 5, 2006 release.

How can it be personal? , in both previous outings he's either been double crossed, betrayed, framed for crimes he didn't commit, pursued across continents by former colleagues intent on killing him , forced to fight other IMF agents , watched his family being arrested for a crime they did not commit, watched as both father figures and the woman he secretly loved turn against him or play him like a fool , watched teammates die in front of him and get the blame so if thats not personal what the %^^**** is ?

The only way it could be more personal is if they kidnap him, transfer his mind/brain to a new body and hold his body hostage on the condition he do a task for them?!

Ahh, another 'quality' Hollywood production to look forward to. I wonder what grond breaking speical effects they have in store. Exploding oil tankers??? Kung foo fighting mice??? Actors actually acting???? Scratch that last one, even I wouldn't believe that. Give the midless masses a couple of loud explosions and watch them lap it up.

I'm glad everyone's looking forward to it.

Well, I think if you see Vaughans comment in the Picard thread... about the dead horse and its flogging.
Just because something is a hit doesn't mean there has to be a sequel. I can accept them in some cases, but this is maybe going a little far. Not as far as Stallone in action roles, but Tom is getting to the point were we want to see something different from him on the run.
Oh, and if they try to make a sequel to LotR, they will die (not counting the Hobbit which would constitute a prequel, and I would regard a Silmarillion film as a stupidl bad idea).

Wait a Second I got it the premise , Ethan Hunt(Tom Cruise)runs around the screen telling everyone who both do and do not care just how in love he is!this goes on for 90 minutes there will be of course the traditional false face switcheroo which ends wit Ethan saying "Just how in love i am"and a big thumbs up , the finale sees Tom do an amazing stunt involving a mid air bike fight and Oprahs couch as he tells the villian just how in love he is
wait waddyamean no bodys that stupid!

Maybe if he made a film about him fighting IMF agents? Tom leads the fight against one-size-fits-all policy? Tom against only lending upto the size of your designated quota? Whilst it would make a massive change, I'm not sure many folks would give a shit.
