Oliver North: Send in the Marines
I regularly read the articles published by Lt.Col.Oliver North, the Marine officer who “fell on his sword” for his country, and was used as a scapegoat in the Iran-Contra affair of the late 80’s.
In his latest article he has concerns over the military being used to render aid to the victims of hurricane Katrina and other such natural disasters declared national emergencies. Quite frankly so do I. The armed forces are stretched thin enough across the globe without those on rotational leave from the Global War on Terror to be gallivanting around the south repairing infrastructure and searching for survivors who should have known better then to stay around for the impending hurricane in the first place.
It could be that congress may amend the constitution so that the military could be used to restore order such as in situations that got a little out of hand in the Superdome and such. While I think that would be good to have “live-target practice” on US soil, it would only take one little mistake for the wrong person to be shot and then more time and money for a public inquiry. So instead of giving the military disaster relief and policing training- I think they should give the police, military training, and some military grade weapons and let them cull the unruly population instead. Leave the military and especially the Marines, do what they do best- kill foreigners. Eagle-eyed readers who can read "fruit salad" will notice the absence of the Humanitarian Service Medal from my chest!

You're not 'the man who shot liberty' for no reason, Colonel! It would have be wonderful to see "shock and awe" tactics used in New Orleans prior to sedning in the marines/marine trained police - I'm sure the looters (black) or those looking for vital supplies (white) *distinction made by US TV, not me* would be cowed by the sight of cruise missile after cruise missile circling them
Now, Now Colonel, while I applaud your attitude to hippie scum as being worthy of Tarkin himself, you must remember that the US is still a Republic, You'll have to wait until "freedom dies to thunderous applaus" and the EMPIRE is officaly declared before you can engage in such naked diplays of autocratic supression. You'll have to ask Sith Apologist for the timetable. The Problem with your argument is that, Law Enforcements agencies are like water, they take the path of least resistance. If you give a Police Force powers to legally carry out military style/scale operations, then even with the proper supervision established there will be abuses of such Power. Basically you're just Colonel Skywalker waiting for a dirty old Man in a Hood to offer you some darkside candies to change into Colonel Vader and indulge your viscous tendencies. Admit it.
I'm looking forard to the moment when Colonel Vader caps all the trainee marines with his silenced pistol/magnificent weapon.
Even as we speak, the Timetable For Action™ is prgressing, and I'll be in touch with the 'good' Colonel in due course, shortly after the "I love democracy" speech is given.
I absolutely refute the suggestion that I'm in any way associated with dirty old men in hoods!
Ah, Sithy, I would expect no less then a complete denial of Dirty Old Men in Hoods involvement from such a fine Apologist as yourself, anything less would be a betrayal of your "nomde plume". However the intended purpose of my suggestion was to indicate that the "Good" Colonel is pimping himself out to the darkside in order to indulge his subconscious desire to oppress(insert religous/ethnic group name here). I think we need to make a clear distinction here on the Colonel's character, he does not care about such flimsy ideals as Good and Evil. No, the Colonel follows a far higher creed, that of the U.S. Marine Corp, If his mission objective is to destroy a village to save it for demoracy and freedom then come hell or high water he will, no matter what the cost.
I havn't shot liberty yet Mr. Anonymous- only if she gets in my way!!
"Blog my hole" eh? I'd never guess that was you Mr. Creedon (no relation) :)
Civilian Overseer: A man can but dream!
Sith Apologist: You're making light of an incident where I accidently shot Air Force, Special Operations officer Captain Vaughan several times. If the weapon had been silenced however- I would have heard him screaming in agony. Sorry again John. (We never did play much Multiplayer Rainbow Six after that).
Unit, Corps, God, Country! Sir, the village will be destroyed Sir! All civilians have been passiified, Sir!
Sir, your hand gun truly is magnificent, Sir!
How different his attitude is now! Why, I remember the time when he was disgusted by my use of Thermal Detonators for crowd control in Jedi Knight, and the time I put an injured Quake 2 marine out of his misery by shooting him up the ass with a rail gun
There's a difference between pacifiying civilians who are law-abiding good people who do what they're told and eliminating those who would thwart efforts to bring law & order, freedom and democracy to the world. Naturally I would never "intentionally" harm the former group, but the latter group's number is up!
There's also a difference between screaming with glee as you descimate one of your own dying/dead men with a shotgun, and reluctantly double-tapping them to the head, vowing to avenge them.
Yes Colonel, I quite agree that there is a difference between pacifiying civilians who are law-abiding good people who do what they're told and eliminating those who would thwart efforts to bring law & order, freedom and democracy to the world. its called "Competence" and the lack of which is called "Friendly Fire", In fact I propose the Colonel be renamed Colonel "Friendly Fire" Creedon as a mark of respect for his "untentional" victims.
Interesting image, that - Colonel Ciaran "friendly fire whopper" Creedon, showering the innocent populance with his 'seed'.
I'm not strictly sure I prefer it to just "Whopper"
Christ lads! Make up your minds before I have my stationery printed!
Well, much as I find the whole friendly fire notion amusing and possessing of smutty connotations, I think for the sake of our future sanity that "Colonel Ciaran 'Whopper' Creedon" will have to suffice. From the sound of the Podcast, I don't think the colonel will mind that.
My vote is for that ... can we vote on this thing yet?
