Fall Of Liberty

Winston Churchill was hit by a taxi on 5th Avenue in New York, in December 1931 and was killed. Without his battle cry to inspire the Allied troops, the Nazis emerged victorious and on December 7, 1951 they launched a devestating attack on the United States and emerged victorious.

Spark Unlimited, the team behind Call of Duty: Finest Hour, are creating Fall of Liberty, which will be released on PC and casts the player as a resistance fighter battling not for the liberation of Europe, but for their nation's freedom in enemy-occupied America in an alternate reality where World War II wasn't won by Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy, but instead the Nazis overthrew Europe and, within a decade, had invaded and conquered America.

Although the game is still at an early stage in its development, Codemasters promises an "intense and cinematic" experience with real-world locations to fight through, including a White House draped in Swastikas and a Manhattan Island that's under threat from nuclear attack. It's a totally fresh approach and with Spark's pedigree of creating believable, compelling gaming experiences, Fall of Liberty could give the historical FPS genre the shake up it needs when released at the end of next year.

Sounds like an excuse to use WW2 equipment and kill Nazi's in various US environs. Suffice to say, death to them all, I'm definetely interested. Whats the Vaughan stance on a game like this?

Colonel, you of all people should know that no one would take this seriously. Right Wing NRA Gun Nuts are far more likely to be Republicans than Democrats. ;)

Besides, shouldn't the Colonel prefer a Nazi rule, as an occupation is technically rule by the military??!

I wonder if they'll use Speer's designs for Berlin? Having to fight through the massive Volkshalle would be interesting.

My stance?Strangely excited by the idea as long as you can drop nazis off the empire state building,my only question would be is it set today or in the 1950s? however this alternate history fps has been done before and has not done well(thinking of that game where WW1 went on into the sixties, so bad I have forgotten its name) still sith apologist if you want to become really excited why don't you wait for Resistance:Fall of Man a game where WW2 never happened because in 39 Aliens invaded and the game is set on the war torn streets of London 1950!its out on ps3 this year and probably pc next year amazing ,its like the buses you wait for one alternate history fps for ages and two come along at once!

@ Sith Apologist: I've no problem with military rule over a democratic republic, not a fascist empire.

@ Mark: There's been a 'realism' trend in the gaming industry for many years, so it's not impossible. Howver as this game is set in the US where you're a resistance fighter I doubt you'll see Berlin or any of Europe for that matter.

@ Vaughan: Resistance:Fall of Man sounds like nonesence and it will not be available for the PC due to it's reliance on Blu-Ray media as opposed to DVD.

Do you not see the inconsistency there? Military rule tends to be somewhat undemocratic to say the least.

Not if you get to elect the Generals. Did you never hear of a General Election?? Hardy har-har! Let's start a campaign now: CREEDON 4 BRIGADIER!

its better than a Rear Admiral, I suppose....

Anonymous said...

Isn't it true that that whopper was the one who shot liberty?

Lieutenant General Creedon said...

@ Sith: Indeed. Sure glad I ain't in the Navy, there's two grades of "Rear-Admiral" and only a slim chance of getting to Vice-Admiral so if one retired as a Rear-Admiral you're known as that forever.

@ Chuck: Screw you Norris!

Norris, it is indeed true that previously the Colonel has been known as "Liberty's Killer", this is a playful double entendre, as the Colonel fights to preserve freedom, he also tramples all over the freedom he fights to preserve. This is a War, Sacrifices will be made. Those who dissent will be the first to go. Take Guns for example, ‘aint that right, Colonel?

Hey, we got a "No Comment", a more complete admission of guilt than I've ever heard before!, No smoke without fire, or in the Colonel's case mass graves without war crimes. Now denie the recent calls to update the Geneva convention where nothing to do with legitimizing your inventive use of Civilians as antitank weapons.

And to think the Colonel used to balk at my strategy of using thermal detonators for "crowd control"!

Lieutenant General Creedon said...

I deny any suggestion that the Geneva Convention should be updated to legitimise the use of civilian personnel as any type of weapon.

I formally object to the use of high explosive ordinance as a method of crowd control.

How about if, like maybe in this situation, its a crowd of Nazis in New York?
1950's Nazi in America™ deserve their crowds controlled by any ordinance in my possession :)
