VerTecX21 launches new website and announces "Project: Sicarius"

 

VerTecX21 returned to the Internet in earnest with the launch of an advanced Google-powered website boasting several times the content of it's previous iteration including updated historical content and video presentations of it's projects. Speculation had been mounting in recent weeks when the original VerTecX21 website, not updated since 2008, suddenly went dark and was replaced with an updated page announcing a redesign and new operational links to a VerTecX21 Blog and a VerTecX21 Twitter account.

VerTecX21 also announced Project: Sicarius, the latest machine build to be constructed at VerTecX21, due to come online in the latter half of September. Project: Sicarius' specifications include:

• a 6th generation Core i7 "Skylake" 6700K 4.0 GHz processor
• an MSI Geforce GTX 980Ti 6GB graphics card
• 16GB of Corsair 3000MHz DDR4 RAM
• a Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe SSD

The machine is expected to power an Acer Predator 4k2k XB280HK 28” G-Sync Widscreen LED display with an obscenely high resolution of 3840x2160 classing the unit as an Ultra High Definition [UHD] 4K device ahead of the format becoming mainstream.

Kerberos Online

The unit constructed under Project: Cerberus is complete and has been officially designated as KERBEROS (pronounced KER-ber-OSE for those who have not mastered the correct Grecian pronunciation). While it contains the same storage, audio and visual peripheral devices as Bellerophron it sports a Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G and a Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0GHz. As you may be able to see from the picture, it has been encased in a Gigabyte 3D Aurora GZ-FSCA1-AN similar to that of Maxximus but in black.

Project: Cerberus to replace Bellerophron

It was revealed on the VerTecX21 website last evening that Project: Cerberus will replace the now decomissioned Bellerophron and that more news will be available soon.

At this time we can voice a roumour that Project: Cerberus will also be a P35 based system like Maxximus but with a Wolfdale processor.

A technology page for the late Bellerophron was also added.

Bellerophron Dead - Blogging Suspended

Bellerophron, my Internet Workstation has suffered a catastrophic system failure and no longer functions.

Until such time as a replacement is configured all posting is suspended.

If anyone knows a solution to:

BIOS ROM checksum error

Detecting floppy drive A media...
Drive A error. System halt

when the system boots up I'm open to suggestions. I'll post my already attempted solutions in the comments.

Project: MAXXIMUS is complete

Well it wasn't quick but it was painless. I have successfully constructed Maxximus and amazingly it works! It functions quiet and cool under a full load which were my main issues with its predecessor Bellerophron. The only issue is that system temperature is a high at 42°C when idle but strangely it doesn't rise much under strain.

Tested so far with Super-Pi, Prime95, Benchmarked Half-Life 2: Episode 1 @ 1920x1200 with 8xAA & 8xAF at 61FPS and I've played some Medal Of Honor: Airborne and the World in Conflict Demo without issue.

As you see from the photo it gives off a blue glow from both the front and the back which is a bit daft but not as bad as some other cases available. Unfortunately the only way of disabling the glow is also disabling the fans which would no doubt cause some flames.

I must also share this picture below of Maxximus' screen, an LG 24" HD monitor displaying my first 1080p download, the new IRON MAN trailer (now available in all flavours here) certainly worth a 200Mb download.

Project: MAXXIMUS

As mentioned in 2IGTV Episode 35 I think it was, it's time for me to upgrade. As you can see from my list of pre-ordered games on the bottom of the right hand sidebar there is only now an incentive to upgrade as opposed to then. Stranglehold, Blacksite, Crisis and some others that have caught my attention will be winging their way to me to experience them on MAXXIMUS.

Maxximus is currently under construction (see picture) and will include features of an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU, 2Gb PC6400 Corsair RAM, an XFX 640Mb GeForce 8800GTS GPU and 2x 500Gb (1Tb) Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA2 drives, output to an LG 24" 1920x1200 HD LCD.

Provided of course I can find my magnetic screwdriver.

And if it doesn't explode when I turn it on first :D

Expect a comprehensive update to the somewhat neglected VerTecX21 in due course.

The Upgrading continues

Well I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but I should get this operation finished soon enough now as I've got a couple of weeks off work.
Orion, Prometheus, Agamemnon and Perseus have all been altered considerably. Magnus has been completly cannabalised and officially decomissioned and it's processor will join my very first PC (Control)'s processor in a frame on my wall as of this week.

VerTecXneT Upgrades

Just doing some upgrading of the secondary and tertiary elements of VerTecXneT, my home network, so updates may be absent for a few days.

Those of you familiar with VerTecXneT may recognise the cases and parts of Magnus, Orion, Prometheus and Agamemnon and a fifth unit (top left) hencefourth be called Perseus, which a friend of mine was going to send to the dump, but I felt it may in whole -or most likely in part, be of some use yet. Don't worry Bellerophron is all ready for Quake IV and Hyperion is functioning splendidly as I'm using it to update this blog as always.
