I don't think there's anything to worry about here [other than a senior military officer's endless reliance on Jack when the going gets tough] - we're seeing the 5 stages of grief through the Colonel and we will soon have 'acceptance'.
Why are you appealing to the Prophet Elijah?, that's what Eloi means after all, I thought Lucas was your deity?, no wait, shakes head sadly, it's just your shocking lack of awareness of late second temple period language rearing it's ugly head again. Well really, I shouldn't be surprised, a weapon doesn't need to be able to hold a more intelligent conversation than "BOOM!" I suppose.
Uneducated simpleton! What kind of two-bit educational establishment were you forced into?
Depending on what version of the great book that was beaten into you in school the text is either "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" or "Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani?"
The shortened form of Elijah is indeed “Eli,” but Eli means 'God' in Greek so that translation from St. Matthew is "God, God, Why have you (forsaken, abandoned) me?"
The root of the word 'Eloi' in [St. Mark's text] is 'El' which is "God" in Hebrew. The suffix "oi" is possessive [my] in Aramaic*. 'Eloi' therefore is "My God" which is the version I was more familiar with before abandoning catholocism.
I choose the posessive transliteration anyway not out of familiarity because Lucas himself is not 'God' in the truest sence [I'm not that insane] but he is "My God" in that I worship his deeds and words as I would a deity.
* It is presumed Christ didn't speak Greek and wheather he spoke Hebrew or Aramaic at the time he said the words - under obvious strain - the pronouncation sounded to the jeering crowd, like he was calling on Elijah but it makes no sence in context. Christ was quoting Psalm 22 and both Matthew and Mark were highlighting the fact that the jeering mob were imbiciles.
My dearest Colonel, My true purpose in disparaging your classical learning was to get you off the sauce by distracting you from your despondency and to remind you to have faith in the Creator's good judgement. All of which worked judging by your next post.
However,
"sense" not "sence", "imbeciles" not "imbiciles".
Poor English shall not PASS!!
On another topic, leaving Star Wars aside you do realize that by acquiring Lucasfilm, the Mousehouse has also acquired the rights to the Indiana Jones franchise, another crystal skull anyone?
The real question will how long will it take Disney to scrape the bottom of the Lucasfilm's barrel of creativity and deign to reboot HOWARD THE DUCK!

I thought Catholics didn't read the bible?
