Replicating Rapid-prototyper could destroy us all!

I got an E-mail from a colleague of mine who often keeps an eye out for threats to our way of life, being aware as I am, of the inherent dangers of "the future".

Now I don't want to come across as a doomsayer, but this seemingly innocent piece of technology on the left, could pave the way for the total destruction of the human race.

Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) was in it's infancy when I was in college but never did I think that it could have evolved into this monster: - a machine that can replicate itself!

Fair enough, it can only replicate about 25% of it's total parts, but that's only 75% away from total replication. It's obvious it's designers are not aware of similar alien technology or the potential for it to be used by a suprcomputer to replicate war machines to annihilate humanity.

Mark my words: This will all end in tears and once again I'll have to don a flak-jacket and shoot my way out of another mess created by people with a lack of true vision!

First they build machines that can replicate. The next thing you know, MASS HYSTERIA! THE LION LAYETH DOWN WITH THE LAMB! THE LAMB GOES ON MONTEL TO TELL ITS SIDE OF THE STORY AND A BRAWL BREAKS OUT, ERUPTING INTO A RIOT, NEXT THING YOU KNOW . . .

But I digress . . .

Say, have you heard Frank Miller is doing a comic about The Batman taking on Al Queda?

Bargh, Lt.Col, even if it could replicate itself completely, that doesn't mean it can assemble all those pieces into an exact replica. Still promising start but needs a lot more work.
