Phil Brown, the actor who played the surly "Uncle Owen" in the original Star Wars, died Friday at the age of 89.He also had movie roles in Superman: The Movie & Pink Panther Strikes Again.

I think we'll all remember Uncle Ian, he had such a memorable part in all our lives. I remember the time Uncle Edward said that thing and then the Ewok said the other thing....how we laughed!!!

ReplyDeleteI'm surprised colonel you forgot to mention the film "the Bedford Incident"where he played the first officer to a crazed navy captain (richard widmark) who triggers world war three...I mean surely you would have at least seen this film .....in fact what are your top three crazed naval commander movies....I suspect Crimson tide is no 1....anyway farewell uncle owen may you always have a glass of that really disgusting blue juice you seemed to drink with you.

ReplyDeleteI know that film though, no way was Brown the XO- that was "Uncle Jack" from Search and Rescue- remember that TV show about The Alpha Team that used trained animals?
I heard Sith Apologist uses trained animals to scurry up his hole, did they have those kind of animals on Search & Rescue???

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry gentlemen, only movies containing blood, pyrotechnics or slo-mo may be discussed here. To answer the question: In addition to the sublime Crimson Tide, I can only think of the wonderful Commander Krill (Gary Busey) in Under Siege.

ReplyDeleteWell, I've been pestering the Colonel to name (on the podcast), his top 10 fictional Colonels, and why he'd like to work with them. Its a pretty good bet that none of them are 100% mentally stable.

ReplyDeleteoh there was that tv mini series from the 80s starring david soul ...no not world war three but the other one where he played the commander of a nuclear sub driven mad by the fumes from the toxic paint someone accidentally painted on the inside of the entire hull!in his paint driven delrium he tries to launch a full out nuclear attack on the Soviet Union (no ,I swear I'm not making it up)
