Flags Of Our Fathers

Clint Eastwood's next directorial assignment is Flags Of Our Fathers, chronicling the US Marines and Navy Corpsman who raised the US flag on Mount Suribachi at The Battle of Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945 , a turning point in WWII.

As this is the most reproduced image in the history of photography, I'm sure you'll be surprised to know that THIS IS AN IMAGE FROM THE FILM! I shit you not people! With attention to detail like this we're in for something big here.

I don't see what you mean. Why should it be that?

Sorry immigrant humour, when you have lived in places like the states or australia you begin to understand it was the people who went before that built these places. The infulence that the Irish had (and still do) on culture and infrastructure in these places is very hard to miss.

interestingly enough, its a well known fact that this picture was faked for propoganda purposes during WWII

I concur Stonewall. The photograph, had the 'effect' of staged propaganda, but was 100% real.

Agreed that the famous photo of the second flag-raising was unstaged although I'm sure the accusation that it was will continue to surface with boring regularity - especially as the opening of this movie looms closer. And did you know that Clint Eastwood shot a second Iwo Jima movie immediately after Flags of Our Fathers? It's called Red Sun, Black Sand and it's about the 22, 000 Jap defenders on Iwo Jima, the majority of whom died on the island.

The film has a mostly Japanese cast (I believe there are only about five non-Jap roles in the entire movie), it's been made in Japanese with English subtitles and according to Ken Watanabe, who plays the Japanese General in charge of defending the island, it's going to shock a lot of Japanese people in its depiction of what really happened. I absolutely cannot wait to see these; two films about the soldiers who fought at the battle of Iwo Jima from a 76 year old director at the top of his game. God bless Clint Eastwood!
